last night, after getting my fill of law & order reruns, i headed out to see group sounds, who were wrapping up their monthlong residency at sin-e. i'm not sure i've ever seen so many people on the sidewalk outside sin-e, with the exception of secret shows, release parties, or the like. anyway, i'd heard the group sounds CD before and liked it, and their live show didn't disappoint. they have tons of energy on stage, and a sound that's sort of like an updated version of the fever, but more wholesome and all-american and happy. they put on a good show and the crowd was super-into it. so into it, in fact, that drunk girls kept dumping drinks (theirs and mine) all over me, which was sort of a drag. the place was so packed that i had to leave early. . .lame for me but good for the band, i suppose. i wouldn't be surprised if they got somewhat big, based on the fact that i'm still singing some of the songs that i only just heard for the first time last night.
my beefs: 1. the singer seems at times to fake a british accent, which is one of my major pet peeves. but i have to admit that i didn't even notice it until it was pointed out to me. so. . .
2. the crowd at sin-e. i'll skip the fashion commentary (since i myself haven't changed out of flip flops for weeks and weeks), but seriously: fellow lushes, if you find yourself at a show and you're knocking into people and spilling pabst all over the place, STOP DRINKING. or at least make yourself puke before getting another drink. it's not brain science.
anyway, here are some photos. . .
you'll have to excuse the dude on the right for his completely busted shirt. and by all means, go here and download 'things fall apart' and 'business before pleasure', so you can decide for yourself.
tonight, i drink. cheers!
