something about this is just so funny.

from gawker:

"Jason Schwartzman was at the LES restaurant Barrio Chino last night, accompanied by several friends, wearing black, looking like he did in I Heart Huckabees, plus a little scruff. About half an hour after he showed up, a man came into the tiny, crowded restaurant and announced to the hostess in a pompous (aren’t they always) British accent, “Broken Social Scene would like to eat at your restaurant.” He was told that Broken Social Scene could wait for a table like everyone else, but they got a table about 20 minutes later."

ha ha ha. i've never been to barrio chino, even though it's right in my neighborhood. apparently i'm missing out!

i just noticed.

. . .that all i've been posting lately are flyers and invitations. BOR-ING. for me anyways. the main reason that that's all i've been putting up here is because there has been very little debauchery in my life as of late. i vow to do better.

one thing i did do this week was clean out (or rather, clean off) my desk. here's what it looked like before.

Mydesk

that large avalanche may not look like it actually contains *that* many CDs, but i also had three enormous mail crates full of them at my feet, and now they're all organized into neat little piles. so does anyone know where a girl can unload about 400 very of-the-moment, in-demand CDs? because i'm at a loss. and that's not even taking into account the fifty or so books that are piling up on the other side of my cube. and don't even think about recommending ebay, because i'm positive i'd never actually get around to sending any of them out and then i'd probably be banned for life. or arrested.

on a totally unrelated note, has everyone heard jeffrey lewis' seven-minute history of punk on the lower east side? it rules. and so does anquette's booty bass song about janet reno.

good night. and good luck.

ps. the sxsw band list has been updated again! this shit is getting ridiculous.

parties and stuff.

"hey, remember how manhattan kinda sucks for going out? esp. on the weekends when it's full of wierd date-rapey jocks and 19 year olds with two different color converse on? Well, fuck let's give it another shot, but don't go telling everybody or the whole place is gonna smell like the "Axe Effect" and I'm gonna have to spin that shitty Kelly Clarkson song. Here's the deal. A fun night at a brand new space with super cheap drinks, friends, dancing and awesome records.

here it is friday and i barely went out all week.

Ninetofive

i am snack dab in the middle of a massive pile of work, and it isn't pretty. as a result, my nights have mostly consisted of working and then watching tv in a desperate attempt to wind down before passing out and doing it all over again the next day. no fun. but! i have learned a few things.

1. bravo is launching a new project runway offshot called project jay, featuring, of course, season one winner jay mccarroll!

Pg6_1

jay is absolutely hysterical to watch. and even a fashion-tard like myself can see how amazing his designs are. so psyched for this. seriously. so psyched.

2. nine to five still rules. it's sort of like 'office space' for the eighties, working-girl set. and i just noticed from the picture that boyfriend john and i were watching it on the 'we' channel. even funnier.

3. it's waaay easier to wake up in the morning when you haven't gone out and raged all night. who knew?

i guess if i wasn't too busy i might go out to one of these.

aww, looky who made her way on to the cover of the new sounds album. yes, that's leigh lezark, nightlife extraordinaire and subject of many a male hipster fantasy, showing more than a little cleavage-y goodness.

happy wednesday! will this week ever end? last night michael pitt's band pagoda played vicious. i wasn't there, as i am in full crazy-work mode this week. how boring of me. sadly, going out doesn't pay the bills. sigh.

holy sxsw!

even *more* bands announced for this year's south by southwest. check em out here.

this year is going to kill.

the question of the day.

how in god's name am i going to get a wristband for sxsw?? i refuse to accept it as an impossibility! usually i have a badge, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen this year. somebody from austin take pity on me. i'm a nice girl. even if i don't like we are scientists.

anyway...it's the weekend! hooray. i for one, will NOT be at either of the editors shows. me no likey scary crowded places. i'd love to hear how they go though! i'll probably be at one or more of these...

Bff

thursday, thursday.

this morning when i woke up i popped in the new liars' album drum's not dead to serve as my morning dose of new music. bad idea.

are you into atmospheric, unlistenable noise-rock? if so, this is the album for you. it features a bunch of odd, indecipherable vocal chants and hums and scattered, abrasive drumming, and the whole thing seems to be about making love to a drum. it's possible the whole thing is over my head.

so, instead of thinking about it any further, i've chosen to talk about last weekend, which ruled! on friday night we went out to for our friend dave's new party, which he throws with cat from fannypack. apparently there were like 400 people there the week before and it was pretty packed this week as well. fontana's is a great HUGE new space on the lower lower east side. there seemed to be about three floors, the drinks weren't overpriced, and everything was hyper and fun. a bunch of my college friends joined the party to celebrate drunk john's arrival in town.

aron from big a little a, seen here with andrew, unaffiliated.

i found twins evan and neil hanging out upstairs in the vip room with boyfriend john.
Evanneiljohn

these kids were drunk. except for jamie on the right, who looks like he wants to kill me.
Johnkeithjaime

jesse's stepbrother currin is a new addition to our little posse and we love him dearly. he's in a metal band called wet nurse. the singer has voodoo eyes.
Jessecurrin

john and cat. somehow john seems to have failed to realize that he was having his picture taken. cat figured it out.

my friends dancing. aw.
Dancing

after that lonnnnng night, we stumbled home and slept the rest of the weekend in preparation for...the last night ever of shout! predictably, it was packed.
Shout

unpredictably, about an hour into the party the second floor started emitting a scary burning-rubber smell and the fire department was called.
Shoutfire

it was so. cold. outside.
Shoutcold

we finally got back in and everyone was still ready and willing to dance the night away. and make faces at me when i took their pictures.
