lots of new cds came in today, so i'm listening to music and not doing any of my work. ssh! don't tell.
these just in: the real new fall lp (kind of awesome), confuse your idols: a tribute to sonic youth (includes tracks by parts & labor and elf power, among others) and the debut lp from fireworks go up!, who i've only heard of because one of the band-members is friends with brian battjer, whose website is my favorite thing to obsess over when i'm avoiding doing my work (read: always).
anyway, about a month ago, i linked to a website where you could listen to a stream of music by the junior boys. now their first album, last exit, is out and pitchfork gave it an 8.9! i can't wait to hear it.
people keep mentioning a band called home video and they have a brand-new album out as well. you can listen to clips from two of their new songs here.
pitchfork also gave an atypically warm and fuzzy review to an ep that just came out on paper bag records by a band called controller controller, who is playing at sin-e tonight.
in an unrelated sidenote, i was told by the mta this morning that i too, can help fight the war on terrorism by calling the MTA hotline should i see anything suspicious. it's like uh, thanks. i HAD been in a fluffy daze thinking about the weekend and making out and white wine sangria and now i'm thinking about...serum gas.
anyway, that's about it. this weekend: going to the opening of david's arts festival or sin-e. tomorrow is a pool party in the east village (!!), then mercury lounge to hear dirty on purpose, benzos and the bravery. intermittent stops at black and white are likely.
happy weekend!
