seriously, how is a girl supposed to get some damn pixies tickets already? i logged on today to try to buy some and the pixies site had one of those 'tell us what this word says' security things and i couldn't do it!! i felt like i had a learning disability. turns out our computers at work weren't functioning properly and we all got dicked out of our pixies tickets. sigh. i shall have to try again tomorrow.
last night i went to hear the hong kong play at rothko and i was pleasantly surprised! they have catchy songs and they're not annoying. the singer took awhile to get in tune, but once she did they gave a really good performance, and i wouldn't be surprised if they blew up soon. i wish the amazonian blonde singer would move around a little more though...their music warrants it, and i always get tired and cranky when i'm at a low-energy show. all in all though, i'm glad i went.
here's some photos. i took them when i was drunk, so cut me some slack.
what else...here is a link to a kind of awesome remix of john kerry's convention speech. it gave me shivers. [ed. note: oops! that was actually a link to a song sampling sharpton's piece, as jesse pointed out. here's the link to the john kerry one.]
and tonight is the weekly 976 party at lit, which should be good. mike simonetti + dj catalyst + gibby miller + dave elliott's birthday + OPEN BAR from 11-12...and it's free. and tomorrow at lit there is another party where i understand that mick rock (who's behind the photography book Picture This: Debby Harry and Blondie) is spinning, and there is an open bar from 11 to midnight. i for one am staying home and getting my beauty sleep.
hm. that's about all i've got. tune in next time to see if i am more successful in my SECOND bid for pixies tickets...tomorrow morning at 9am. fingers crossed.
that ain't john kerry. that's al sharpton! how much do we all wish he were the actual democratic contender. sigh.
