on sunday night i was fortunate enough to hear kevin devine perform at pianos. i seriously can not recommend him highly enough. normally i don't go for the confessional guy-with-guitar stuff, but he has a beautiful voice and his lyrics are achy and sad in all the right ways. as an additional bonus, he's not pretentious. at all. i think he's playing at pianos for next couple of sundays, so you should totally check him out.
last night i went to see the metallica documentary at sunshine and it was excellent. is there anything funnier than watching lars ulrich and james hetfield emote with a smarmy group therapist? yes, there is, and it's watching them trying to figure out a way to fire him as he psychoanalyzes them into keeping him around for a couple more $40,000-months on the job. so awesome. but waaaaaay too long.
as for this week, al franken and paul krugman of the times are convening at the union square barnes and noble this thursday at 7pm to discuss things like hating conservatives and being loud-mouthed liberals. and i understand that the beta band just announced their imminent breakup. sigh. and be sure to check out the fever's new website. they rule. oh, and how awesome-slash-ridiculous is this?
finally, since i'm sure spinderella of salt n pepa and martha stewart are avid readers of my blog, i feel compelled to announce that we share the same birthday! and it's today. cheers, bitches.
happy birthday!
