In the vain of the movie 24hr Party People we are throwing a 12hr Party. 4 rooms of entertainment all night long.

Room 1: Live Performances by:
BEANS(Warp Records) and Mommy and Daddy(KanineRecords) with Djs Richard Fearless(Death in Vegas), Language(NegroClash / BBE Records), and Scott Mou(Other Music) spinning a mix of old school hip hop, italia disco, acid house, electro, soul, and late night party jams.

everyone's resting up for new year's...

and so am i. but there are a few things i felt the need to share.

one. apparently, bono's not the only one who's linked up with apple. according to the saddle creek records website, anyone who pre-orders the new bright eyes albums will be entered into a drawing to win an ipod. swell.

two. jo divestar is back. or she's on the way to being back, at least. hooray!

three. my friend drunk john (of oc fanclub fame and the creator of the great, on-hiatus zine 'coed naked sex' as well as an amazing mix cd club that is my new reason for being) has started a blog. right here. it's sure to be brilliant, unless he abandons it like his last one.

so my roommate subscribes to vogue. . .

reader, i implore you: run, don't walk, to the newsstand to see the new january 2005 cover. it's jennifer lopez, but so airbrushed as to be entirely unrecognizable, at least to me. i originally had a much more incredulous post here, but my roommate just came home and thought it wasn't weird at all. either way, look at the cover. it's weird. totally doesn't look like her.

this morning i had trouble buttoning my jeans. . .

and when i got to work there was a giant box of see's peanut brittle on my desk! a "gift". uh, thanks. [ed.note (an update): since i wrote this post, i've also received a box of chocolate-covered potato chips AND free godivas! someone needs to stop the madness!]

anyway, i guess it's that time of year because i just received word about new year's happenings at two of the city's most hipsterific hangouts. rothko's lineup makes me feel like it's 1999, and i don't particularly like the lineup at the delancey either, but at least it's a good deal. anyway, here you go:

and it's finally here. thank god.

last night i went to the kemado christmas party at rothko. i missed all of the bands except for diamonds. they wrecked house. they sounded absolutely fantastic and the whole place was buzzing about them for the rest of the night. here's a picture of peeps hanging out after the show. that's morgan, the singer, on the left.

after that we all headed to the shout boys' new metal party, beast, at manahatta, which is like my least favorite name for a bar ever. that aside, it was a good time. i was too drunk to take any pictures, but that weird guy from lastnightsparty.com was there, so it was all taken care of. you can check out some truly heinous pictures of me and my long-lost friend hillary here. i look pretty terrible, but i'm relieved that they didn't use the ones they shot after the photographer pulled my shirt half-off without me noticing. i was a little worried this morning that i was about to have my very own tara reid nip slip. phew.

anyway, time for a nap. one more thing though: i am presently brainstorming for a story about montreal bands. who are your favorites? email me...

morrisey, the musical.

pitchfork reports that morrissey, following in the footsteps of the beach boys, has given the go-ahead for a musical based on songs by the smiths. gag.

in other news, the arcade fire is coming back to the bowery ballroom on february 1st. tickets are on sale now. they're also playing the following day at warsaw.

also, depeche mode is working on a new album. and in sad news, erasure's andy bell has confirmed that he's HIV-positive. :(

some festive gatherings for feative people. . .

pixes = so awesome?

pixies = so awesome. went to last night's show at hammerstein ballroom and was absolutely blown away like i haven't been by any show in a long time. mission of burma opened and they were great, but i thought they were better at siren this summer. plus the sound was bass-heavy and sucky. the pixies finally came on (luckily, they'd fixed the sound) and the crowd went predictably wild. and for good reason!! their set was even better than the one they played at coachella, and not only because i was only like ten feet away this time. at coachella, they played basically a greatest hits set- which went over well with the crowd, but wasn't that interesting. this time they played a mix of hits (ie. hey, caribou, monkey gone to heaven, anything off of doolittle, etc.) and other cool, improvised make-feedback-with-our-drumsticks type stuff. they even played both versions of 'wave of mutilation'--regular and acoustic. i loved every minute. they didn't leave the stage before their encore and did a cute "aww should we play one more song? yeah, let's play one more song..." and played debaser and gigantic. and then when they were really finished, they said good night to each other. "good night, joe." "good night, frank." "good night, kim." etc. in other words, so much awesome.

highlight of the evening: the two foreigners next to us who didn't speak a word of english, yet were singing along phonetically to every song. oh yeah, and kim deal still looking awesome and sounding amazing, if tired by the end.
