i'm talkin to you productshop and miss modernage!
anyway, i hope so, because tuesday night was radical. after work i headed over to see the futureheads play an acoustic set at the spin offices. to be honest, i wasn't all that excited since i'd already been lucky enough to catch an intimate little futureheads show a few months before. but holy cow, that didn't compare! this time they all sat on little stools about a foot away from me, and played a shit-hot acoustic set. they sounded awesome. their voices were all perfectly in tune and they didn't miss a beat. so good. so, so good. look how close i was!
i believe they started off with robot, and ended with garage rock. in between they played alms, carnival kids, a few others, and a cover of 'a picture of dorian gray' by the tv personalities. anyway, their lead singer is just the cutest. he was wearing highwaters with maroon doc martin 10-holes.
after the show, i picked up boyfriend john and we headed out to northsix for the stars/kevin devine benefit. i was expecting it to be a madhouse since the other stars shows had sold out so early, but it totally wasn't, which was a pleasant surprise. kevin put on an awesome show, and it was the first time i'd seen him perform with a full band. usually his shows are kind of a somber affair, but the band made the whole thing feel a little more like a party. the crowd was really feeling it. here's some pictures. . .
if you're into singer/songwriter stuff, you can listen to kevin here.
anyway, stars finally took the stage around 12:30, and by that time i was too tired to enjoy much of anything. plus i'm kind of ADD about shows and if they aren't pretty high-energy i tend to get bored. which is exactly what happened. soooooo although i love stars' new album, i can't say much about their live show. you can tell how i was feeling by the halfass photo i took.
good times! anyway, must run, but i shall post some other goodies later on. . .
