sigh. it's all true. i admit it. when i first heard them i was like ohmygodyouhavetohearthisbandtheyregonnabehuge. and they are! unfortunately, having heard them live several times i can vouch for the fact that they are totally a studio band. brandon's voice has always been completely off-key when i've seen them live, and even their standards (not like they have much else) sound messy. plus, once the novelty of hearing an indie band play songs that were actually catchy wore off, they didn't have much staying power.
but that's just my 2 cents. go here to read my initial freakout over the killers and to see even bigger pit stains than the ones seen on this page at top right.
pitchfork calls brian eno's another day on earth "decent at best."
erstwhile dawson's creek star michelle williams is performing a free live reading of christopher shinn's 'the coming world' at ars nova on june 20th.
sephora is invading union square on june 23rd, from 3:30 to 8pm. expect free samples, free treatments and makeovers, and hundreds of insane women battling for a spot at the bliss bar.
in other news, i took a road trip to boston this weekend and i learned a few things.
1. you don't actually have to *cross* the triborough bridge to get to massachusetts.
2. boston residents like to say that the bars close at 2. by "2" they actually mean "12:30."
3. mellow gold isn't as good as i remember.
4. violent femmes still kick ass.
sorry baby, i had to call you out on that. you were going so apeshit for them at coachella. and i quote manicmess "i'm their number one fan." but you were right about them. they have gotten huge (and have the huge egos to match--when i saw brandon compare themselves to the arcade fire, i flipped. earth to the killers, you are a duran duran cover band.)
