oh, britt daniel. thank you for being such a wonderful ball of hot rock star goodness. this show was amazing.
me and my little spoon-loving family headed over to webster hall around 8:45, thinking that we'd be able to catch some of the clientele before spoon came on. wrong! they'd already played and we actually got there just as they were setting up the stage for spoon. c'est dommage. they came on at about 9:20 and proceeded to put on a completely awesome show. what i think is especially amazing about spoon is that they're one of the few bands that represent the whole package: they can write a perfect pop song and back it up technically AND get a crowd totally amped. and they don't have to rely on pretentious stage antics or on working up a party vibe because their music is just. that. good.
in sum, an excellent show. i've got the worst memory for set lists but i definitely heard sister jack, i turn my camera on, i summon you, everything hits at once, and of course the way we get by.
i also saw britt daniel play an acoustic solo show at maxwell's in november. that one ruled as well.
i got some pictures last night but i wasn't that close to the stage so they're not that great. . .
brooklynvegan did much, much better.
in other news, roommate jesse reports that the second m.i.a. show at sob's was killer as well. apparently jesse had the pleasure of making diplo's acquaintance after the show and sent me all manner of text messages about their burgeoning friendship. totally awesome. jesse also reports that the spoon afterparty at lit with britt daniel spinning wasn't as insanely overcrowded as i'd expected it to be. a pleasant surprise.
tonight: outhud at the diesel u-music awards! best week for music ever?
