aww. the montreal music scene is having mixed emotions about its own runaway success.
everyone from liz phair to john legend has agreed to shill for the gap.
and a group of well-connected dancer types have filed a supreme court case against the city of new york for restricting their right to freedom of expression. apparently this happened awhile ago and was widely reported, but somehow i missed it.
as for me, last night i went to the antony and the johnsons show at town hall, where despite apparently being seated right near her, i failed to run into laura modernage. town hall's a weird place. i didn't like that i couldn't drink beer during the show, but i did like that i could relive my childhood broadway experiences by eating kit-kats in my seat. regarding the actual performance, i'd been dying to see antony forever because i really love his album i am a bird now, but i wasn't blown away by last night's show. in fact, i was so not-blown-away that i left halfway through. somehow his voice, which i usually think is heartbreaking and beautiful, sounded so warbly and vibrato that every song ended up sounding the same. i also never realized before how much antony can resemble meatloaf when he forgets to mind his wig.
as always though, that's just my two cents...
where were u, mm?
